Essential Guide to Warfare: Mygeeto

I contributed ten pieces to Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare, which came out this month. Here's how I developed one of them.

It was a half page spread -- half a page high, two pages wide -- of the battle on Mygeeto. In short the process was: thumbnails, drawing, color studies, painting. Of course it's never as simple as it sounds, but that's my story.

It makes me think I should paint more often.

  1. This is Great. 45 x 15", Oils, and Star Wars too! Man, if I owned a hat I would doff it.

Respect. And yes you should! :)

  2. Thanks. It took a lot of time, but I think it really came together well.

And I am. Well, have been. I'm not going to get to paint today, though.

  3. Love the somber tones and lighting in this piece Drew! I'm normally a big fan of your L5R and Ninjato works but this ranks among one of my favorites by you and I'm not even a Star Wars fanatic!

    1. Thanks very much, Harry. I should at least be able to show it at Spectrum Live next month before Lucasfilm whisks it away. If you make it, say hi!

    1. I'll probably have a couple of Star Wars pieces from the Warfare book, a couple of Magic cards, my Eowyn painting, the fallen female samurai piece I posted about here a while back, and hopefully finish a dragon piece I've been sorting out during my free time for the past couple of years. And whatever else I can get done at the last minute.

I'm certainly running out of time, though!

  5. Drew, By all mean keep painting. Do you use liquin or some other medium to speed up the drying time? Especially on those colors that take longer to dry than others. ~Gary
