Here's my piece for the Drow vs Mindflayer challenge over at Jon's blog. I think it turned out pretty well. It came together pretty smoothly, which was nice.
I've also included my (slightly refined from the original) sketch, since I think that sort of thing is interesting.

Well done, Drew. Beautiful colors, and nice details, as always--the blue blood, the tentacles in the hair, the drow's expression, and the structural and textural details on the mind flayer are all high points. Have you ever painted any nasties from the C'thulu mythos? I think that would be a kick to see.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chris. I've never done anything C'thulu related, actually. In fact, nearly all I know about the mythos comes from seeing plushies at GenCon. Sad, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI think this came out really well... one of your best. I like the tight cropping...you captured the tension of the moment. Good luck in the challenge.
ReplyDeleteHey man, found this blog by checking your entry at ArtOrder. Great work. I look forward to getting trounced by you in future challenges. :D
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alan. I agree I cropped in a little too much for the version I sent Jon. When I cropped it I was paying attention to how the text overlaid the whole image, and forgot to give deference to the front cover on its own.
ReplyDeleteThe full version is above. It has a little more on the left and bottom, but puts the mindflayer's eye, and the drow's knife hand on the back, just a little too high
Thanks, Art. I Hope I can keep up. You whippersnappers have a knack for getting good, while I seem to just get older.
ReplyDeleteI like to see how the artist start his work.
ReplyDeleteI really like the way you worked with the mindflyer head textures, both armors and drow's hairs.
Really grate work ^_^
This was my favorite entry Drew. Then I found out you did it. Now I'm not so sure anymore. Stop painting better than me!!
ReplyDelete:)
